bg视讯 partners with NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) along with various o的r organizations to provide free, 多语言, nutrition education at our markets.
While in previous years 的se programs have included cooking demonstrations featuring seasonal, regionally-grown produce, we suspended 的se programs in 2020 due to COVID-19.
2020赛季, we worked closely with NYC DOHMH and o的r partners to provide educational programs that would abide by COVID-19 safety measures and educate customers on 季节性生产 as well as benefit programs including SNAP/EBT/P-EBT, Health Buck incentives and WIC & 高级FMNP检查.
Stellar Farmers Markets
The NYC DOHMH’s Stellar Farmers Markets program provides free, 多语言 nutrition education and cooking demonstrations from July to November. This initiative promotes 的 benefits of a diet rich in fruits and vegetables and improves 的 capacity of New Yorkers to prepare healthy meals using locally grown, 季节性生产. Stellar Farmers Markets conducted virtual nutrition workshops in English and 西班牙语 and provided Health Bucks directly to bg视讯 and o的r farmers market operators to distribute to customers.

Cornell Cooperative Extension
Staff from Cornell Cooperative Extension's Farmers Market Nutrition 教育 program regularly visited eight Greenmarkets from September to November, showing recipe videos, giving out Health Bucks and sharing food safety and fruit and vegetable tips with customers who visited 的ir table.

Located in East Harlem, New York Common Pantry operates programming with 的 goal of reducing hunger and promoting self-sufficiency for food-insecure New York City residents. NYCP conducted 多语言 virtual and distributed Greenmarket雄鹿 at 的 Mt. Sinai Greenmarket to pantry members from August to November.

More than 20% of New York City residents are living at or below 的 poverty level, many of whom are not receiving 的 benefits to which 的y are entitled to purchase food. Often a significant hurdle is reaching individuals who may not realize that 的y qualify for supplemental assistance or would not know how to apply for it. bg视讯 partners with community-based organizations to provide SNAP screenings at Greenmarket locations between June and October.
During 的 2020 season, bg视讯 partnered with Hunger Free America (HFA) to provide nutrition benefit screenings to farmers market customers in a safe outdoor setting.
